Okay. So now that we have gotten the resolution to stay in shape out of the way and have put forward a plan of action that seems really doable, let’s focus on resolution number two. This one should be easy to complete living in here in Portland: Exploring a new pub or restaurant every week. That means I only need to check out 52 new places this year. With thousands of unexplored eateries and pubs here in town, this will be a snap.

For my first one, I decided to check out one that kind of helps me keep resolution two as well: Birdie Time Pub.

Birdie Time Pub, located at 925 Main in Southeast Portland, is a pub like no other. While most bars and pubs have pool and darts and air hockey, this one I truly unique. With its live-edge wood decorating the walls and tin roof, Birdie Time Pub is a venue jam-packed with an inimitable atmosphere.

After my first visit, I determined that this would be my  go-to spot for anyone willing to enjoy a casual drink.  This is saying something because there are so many casual, laid back places to imbibe and masticate throughout the Portland/Metro area.

But, unlike many (most) pubs, this one is family friendly. Maybe that’s not always good when you’re trying to drink and eat in peace,  but it also increases your chances to go there if you can bring the whole family. Take the good with the bad, I suppose.

But what makes this place so unique is what’s available. Similar to Top Golf, there are loads of activities in a fun, family friendly atmosphere. Enjoy a delicious burger and a crisp micro-brew while also enjoying a round of mini golf. Or, take a cheap trip to Venice with one of the VR machines. You can also bring the family dog and just sit back and watch sports. It’s like having your own man cave but someone else does the cleaning. And, yes, you read that right. This place is dog friendly

The food is delicious and the drinks are affordable and plentiful. In addition to beers, you have a full liquor bar, tea and even kombucha. Birdie Time Pub opened last year and it’s already making a name for itself as one of the premier hangouts for an after-work drink, a birthday party, or even a bachelor party. Couple this with its convenient location, and you have yourself a winner.
