Orenco Station in Hillsboro, Oregon, is one of the fastest growing neighborhoods in the Portland/Metropolitan area. It’s no wonder, what with the European inspired architecture, the plethora of great jobs and the ideal location, an hour from the beach and twenty minutes from Downtown Portland.
Since its beginning a decade and a half ago, Orenco Station has blended the best of urban living, with a suburban vibe and an eye towards green living and nature. All of this will be on display with the one day festival, OrenkoFest. OrenkoFest, slated for Saturday October 10th, is going to be a celebration of the agricultural history of Hillsboro in the place where it all began, Orenco Station.
Free to the public, “OrenKoFest is where agritourism meets the city. Visit the new Orenco Station Plaza tucked right next to Orenco Station MAX stop and the new Platform District condominium.” OrenKoFest will feature Hillsboro’s first premiere harvest festival full of food from local restaurants, food carts and vendors. Farm direct produce, live music (primarily cover bands), seasonal beer and wine, unique art and craft vendors, and kids’ autumn crafts (pumpkin painting) will also be on hand to ensure fun for everyone involved.
OrenkoFestkicks off promptly at noon and will run until 8 PM or so. It will take place at the brand spanking new Orenco Station Plaza. With the nip of early fall and the majesty of colorful leaves, OrenkoFest is sure to delight all of the senses.
A lot of my friends that live in the city wonder why I rave so much about my neck of the woods. They don’t get it. It’s the suburbs and, to their minds, it’s far from anywhere—but there is a reason that Orenco Station is so popular, and I fully intend to woo them to my way of thinking, starting with OrenkoFest.
You can’t beat the price, and you can’t beat the environment. I hope OrenkoFest expands into a two or three day festival in coming years and I, for one, am excited for this years’ edition. It’s sure to be a great time for all!
OrenkoFest is occurring October 10th from 12-8 at Orenco Station Loop at the Orenco/NW 231st Ave MAX Station.
