Still Realestating

Welcome to what is the first pandemic for most of us! My parents predate polio so this pandemic is new even for them. You might be scared. You might be wondering if this is the new normal. The truth is—no one knows how long this pandemic will last. No one knows how long you will have to shelter in place. It’s a scary time for us all, worried about our health and the health of our vulnerable loved ones.

But, once this immediate health crisis passes (and it will—rest assured, life will return to normal)—what will happen to the economy? Many folks have been laid off, most temporarily, some permanently. Others have had their jobs phased out or changed. The stock market is as volatile as ever. Real Estate at this time may seem terribly uncertain, but, it’s a giant part of the economy—an estimated 22% of all jobs in the United States are real estate related. Rest assured, your local agent is as busy as ever, the housing market remains strong. Now is ...

Go Outside Safely

While Oregon has gone on a necessary and temporary lockdown as we work to flatten the curve of Covid-19. But, even though many of our bars and restaurants are temporarily closed (though, many are still open for take out, so if you can support your local eateries—and Powell’s—please do so!) You can still get outside and enjoy nature… just keep your social distance.

Thankfully, spring time in Portland, Oregon and the surrounding areas is a great time to be outside. With this lockdown and quarantine, though, it’s necessary for sanity! But, fresh air and exercise are also good for the health and stress and keeping healthy is vitally important right now. There’s the joke going around about the Quarantine15 but it doesn’t have to be this way. There’s still ple ...

Portland Dating

Dating isn’t easy. I don’t care where you live, how old you are, how much money you make or even how good looking you are. Finding that special someone, or even just that someone to hang out with, isn’t easy. It’s not like it is in the movies. You’re not likely to just run into your soul mate when you both reach for the same head of lettuce at the Trade Joe’s. Most of us aren’t smooth enough to have that clever quip that’s going to sweep Mr. of Ms. Right off their feet and into happily ever after with you.
No. Meeting people takes work. Even in a city like Portland, Oregon.
So, what do we do about this?
Well, there’s a plethora of dating apps. Tinder is likely the most popular and, despite it’s reputation as a hook up app, meaningful connections can be made using the app. Bumble, Plenty of Fish, and the recently launched Portland Dating App. Apps are great because you can safely browse available single sin your area form t ...

Water Park

I love to swim. So do my kids. So does my wife. What’s not to love? It’s resistance free exercise that is good for the whole body. It’s a lot of fun, too.
But, this is Oregon so, swimming outdoors isn’t available year round. Not if you want to refrain from getting frostbite and pneumonia. Fortunately, we have a lot of indoor water parks available here in the area, the favorite, at least for me and my family, is the North Clackamas Aquatic Park in Clackamas.
I remember, as a kid when this place first opened. I was in awe. I’d never seen so many watery delights under one roof as I did there. I went frequently. I still do. I imagine I always will.
It’s really a blast for everyone. Something for every member of my finnicky family to enjoy. My kids learned to swim here and it’s still their favorite place to go for aquatic experiences. Me and my son, we love to zoom down twisty tube slides. It’s my idea of a thrill ride, with a fun and so ...

Evolution

“I want to get into better shape. I want to work out more.” I said this on January 1st, 2020. And 2019, and 2018, and… you get the picture. This is the most common of all resolutions. It’s when gyms see a huge spike in membership and when health food stores see a huge uptick in business. It never lasts, of course. Most people have abandoned this resolution by the beginning of February.
This won’t be me. Not this year. Not again. The hands of the clock are ticking and, without being in better shape, they may not click for as long.
Portland, Oregon is a health conscious, outdoorsy city. If there’s motivation to stay in shape, just look outside. One activity I’ve always wanted to try is mountain climbing. I like the danger and I like the exertion and sense of accomplishment. So, when I went down to Yosemite over the Holidays, I tried it. And failed. Did I mention exertion. Exertion requires oxygen. Turns out, climbing mountains can suck the bre ...
