Oregon Brewers Festival
It’s that time of the year. I can smell the fragrant hops. My taste buds salivate involuntarily. I smile in anticipation of a day or two spent in the mid summer sun. My ears tickle with the music they’re about to hear. My eyes begin to bug, anticipating the cornucopia of beauty and art I’m about to encounter.
Certainly I could be describing a number of summer events in Portland, Oregon, but, specifically, I am referring to the Oregon Brewers Festival– my favorite festival of the year– and not just for the fabulous craft and international beers on display.
With more than 88 different craft beers from around the country (and a hundred more in the Specialty Tent) “The Oregon Brewers Festival is the quintessential celebration of craft beer! On a sun soaked July afternoon, there’s no better place to sip suds with friends along the banks of the Willamette River, with the Portland skyline as a backdrop to the west and Mt. Hood towering in the east. Whether you prefer Belgians or Blondes, Pales or Pilsners, Saisons or Wits – come to the Oregon Brewers Festival, and see for yourself why we’re one of the world’s best loved craft beer festivals.”
Every year I come here and discover something new. And not just beer. Fabulous food and music permeate the landscape– and I always make a friend or two. The Oregon Brewers Festival is a great way for those just discovering the art and excellence of beer to find a new favorite. Those who have been in the game awhile, like me, can also find something new while discovering some of the tricks and secrets that make this responsibly enjoyed beverage the perfect summertime indulgence.
Now in its 27th year, this year’s festival (July 23-27th at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in Downtown Portland) promises to be the best yet. Of course, I say that every year and every year I’m proven correct. The festival isn’t about drinking beer– it’s about art, creativity, flavor and community. Oregon Brewers Festival provides all this and more.
This year’s festival will also feature a number of local and national music groups, ranging from jazz to pop to country to blues. Like the beer sampled and sold here, the music is eclectic, delicious and creative. Oregon Brewers Festival is a must attend every year for me and my wife. Make it a tradition for you as well. It’s money and time well spent and, with ample public transportation options home, over indulgence is not a concern. For information, visit: http://www.oregonbrewfest.com/
